Description
(American, 1847-1919). Oil on canvas, signed "Blakelock" lr, 20 x 36 in., framed. Considered Catagory II by Norman Geske. Email from Katherine L. Walter, Co-Director, Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, Professor and Chair, Digital Initiatives & Special Collections, University of Nebraska-Lincoln 319A Love Library, Lincoln, NE states as follows: "NBI-199 was examined by Norman Geske and placed in the Nebraska Blakelock Inventory category II, which as you know indicates that the work is consistent with works by Ralph A. Blakelock based on the technique, style and subject matter of the painting. Category II also relates to paintings that may be lacking a complete provenance. A document dated in 1973 indicates that “In the Adirondacks” is an oil on canvas, 20” x 36”, mountain landscape. Images in the file correspond to the ones you sent me. It was conserved in 1968 and there is some retouching, but nothing to suggest any concerns."
