(Charter bank #1325) 8 checks from Sept-Nov 1873 drawn on Western National Bank of Baltimore, 4 of which have 2cent Washington Tax stamps attached. Check #24 for $111 was for Ground Rent, a common method of leasing land in Baltimore after the revolution. There are four checks from 1898 from French firm of Messrs E Hosskier & Co made out to the Machado family, "per pro Alex Brown & sons" with an Alex Brown cancellation over the 2 cent stamps on each check/ A copy of Jan 29, 1857 Baltimore Sun An 1856 Indenture document and release of mortgage from Charles Brinkman to Josiah K. Smith Several pages of Feb 9 1928 Baltimore Sun. Check 321 drawn from Western National Bank of Baltimore, September 18, 1873 with 2 cent Washington tax stamp - made out to John P. Poe for $1000. John Prentiss Poe was nephew of Edgar Allan Poe through his mother (second cousin once removed through his father) and Attorney General of Maryland, 1891-1895, law professor and Dean of Univ. of Md law School 1871-1909.
