William Byrd II of Westover (1674-1744), best known as the founder of Richmond, Virginia and for his controversial personal diaries. Sitter attribution on verso, oil on canvas, unsigned, 18 x 24 1/4 in., framed. Letter and included documents state that records indicate that William Byrd as a young man was painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller.
