Provenance
This rare Civil War Colt revolver was a US Civil War battlefield “pick-up” from Battle of First Manassas, VA, by a very young Joel Goode Bodine in 1861, (father of famed Baltimore photographer A. Aubrey Bodine). As a boy, young Bodine lived on his family’s large land tract farm in Prince William County, VA. His family’s farm was co-located in the immediate vicinity of several of the hard fought skirmish locations.
This revolver was found in its present condition on the battlefield with a jammed hammer in a cocked configuration, and has been preserved in that state by Mr. Bodine’s descendants ever since.
