(American, 1856-1925). Oil on canvas, signed "John S. Sargent" lr, 24 x 18 in., framed.
Condition
Inspected and tested by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, New York, NY, November 21, 2019. Report states, "The work was tested in a couple of areas, and my conclusion is that it will not respond to further cleaning. The signature appears to be period to the painting. The canvas is lined with a non-wax adhesive. There are a few small spots of retouching around the signature in the lower right, but none interfere with the inscription itself. In the upper left, there are four retouches, but the remaining unevenness visible under ultraviolet light does not correspond to retouching. The work should be hung as is."

Painting was accepted by Elizabeth Oustinoff, American Associate of the John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonne directed by Richard Ormond and was reviewed by the Raisonne vetting committee in New York City on October 2, 2019. Piece remains under academic review by the Raisonne Committee with no conclusion date available. Official letter and conservation documents are included.
