Associated with Col. Edward G. W. Butler, 1800-1888, Col. in the 3rd Dragoons and in command of the Upper Rio Grande, 1847-'48, comprising: ALS of John E. Wool, commander of US forces in NE Mexico, dated at Moneterey, March 2, 1848, 1 1/2 pp. 4to; an official order from the War Department, Washington, Jan. 13, 1848, signed by Adjutant General Roger Jones; an unidentified letter written in Spanish; three letters from Butler's wife Eliza, 1847-'48; and a letter from a committee of officers formerly under his command, Aug. 30, 1848
