Description
John Greenleaf Whittier, ghostwriter; NARRATIVE OF JAMES WILLIAMS, AN AMERICAN SLAVE, Who was for several years a driver on a cotton plantation in Alabama. 2nd ed. (NY: American Anti-Slavery Society, 1838) With lithographed portrait frontispiece by African American printer, Patrick Reason. Cloth spine, printed boards, with vignette of a fleeing slave. This book has remained a classic in the genre, though it was withdrawn from sale after a few months, when vehement challenges to it's authenticity emerged.
