Samuel Pepys (1633-1707, historical writer and diarist) letter written on dictation by Edward Montagu (1625-1672, 1st Earl of Sandwich, in Feb., 1660, appointed General at Sea, and in March tasked with returning Charles II to England from exile in Holland) and signed by Montagu aboard the ship "Swiftsure," to the Commissioners of the Royal Navy, March 29 1660. Montagu requests a quick decision on charges against Captain Sparling of the ship "Assistance." 1 p., folio, 12 x 8 1/2 in., folded, wax seal on verso. An interesting memento of the Restoration, written about a month after Pepys commenced his famous diary.

Small tears along folds, tape used in repairs, and pencil notations
