Description
Original handwritten petition to the President and Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, signed by 8 judges of the Court of Common Pleas for Chester Co., c.1786; 1 p. folio, 10 1/4 x 7 5/8 in.: a testimonial in favor of the serving Prothonotary, Caleb Davis, issued in response to other petitions which called for his removal, prompted by anger over transfer of the courthouse to West Chester. The judges noted that Davis had served honorably for several years and had recently incurred personal expenses building a suitable office in West Chester. Militia); Jonathan Culbertson (Major in PA Militia, d. 1794); and Persifor Frazer (Brig. Gen. in PA Militia, d. 1792).
Provenance
From the estate of a Maryland collector.
