Handwritten resolution of the Selectmen of Salem, Massachusetts, dated July 10, 1793; 1 p., folio, 12 3/8 x 7 1/2 in.; naming 15 men (one woman's name scratched out) as qualified "Retailers of Spiritous Liquors" during the upcoming year; signed by Elias Hasket Derby Jr. (1766-1826, merchant sea captain, introduced merino sheep to US); Edward Norris (a shipmaster); Jonathan Waldo; and Jacob Sanderson (a cabinetmaker). Endorsed by J. Osgood, town clerk, as 3 of the licensees swore the required oath.
