Attributed to Anton Schmidt, blacksmith at the Moravian mission to the Iroquois at Shamokin (Sunbury), PA, circa 1750: a finely crafted small axe with welded steel edge and elongated round peen, 5 in. L., the edge 1 3/8 in. L., with tapered hickory handle, 15 7/8 in. L.
Provenance
From the estate of a Maryland collector, whose family were residents of Shamokin for generations.
