American forged iron pike head with deep socket and long tangs, one with impressed mark, "PRAHL," for Lewis Prahl, contractor who supplied them to Continental forces in 1775; 20 1/2 in. L., mounted on a later wooden shaft, 85 1/4 in. L. overall.

Additional Comments, Nov. 3:
The spearpoint is 6 7/8 in. L and 1 9/16 W.; the head including socket is 10 3/8 in. L.; and the langets add 10 inches.
Provenance
From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from Guthman Americana, 1981. Reportedly dug by Alonzo Harper in 1874 at SE side of Wayne Ave. in Suffern, Rockland Co., NY, site of Rochambeau's camp in October, 1782.
