Description
The first US carbine, made at Springfield Armory in a run of about 1200, most of which were used as presents for allied Native Americans in the Old Northwest; round barrel with small bead sight, marked "US" and with proof marks, 33 3/4 in. L.; lock plate stamped with partial eagle and "1808," reconverted to flintlock; brass side plate and butt plate each marked "M. Champion;" walnut full stock with brass fittings, marked "US" in cursive letters; ramrod with brass tip; 48 1/2 in. L. overall.
