The first such insignia issued by the U.S. government, depicting a charging dragoon, with an eagle flying overhead; stamped brass with pewter or lead backing and wire attachment, 3 5/8 x 2 3/4 in. With a riker display case.

Provenance
From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from Guthman Americana, 1996 - reportedly found in Reading, PA. Similar examples described and pictured in J. D. Campbell's American Military Insignia, Smithsonian Bulletin 235 (1963) Figs. 1-2. This badge was reissued in 1812 in pewter.
