Civil War era, comprising a pair of gilt metal epaulettes with silver leaf-form insignia; a leather belt covered with gilt and red ribbon; and a few extra pieces; housed in a japanned tin box, 9 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.
Provenance
From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from McClure's Gun Shop, Falls Church, VA. Stated at purchase to have belonged to Engineer Wm. H. Best of Quincy, MA, who served on the gunboat "Daylight," 1861-'64, and the "Iroquois" for the rest of the war.
