London, circa 1830: type commonly known as "Hadley's Quadrant;" with ebony frame, 15 in. L.; housed in a painted wood step-top box, with interior label of Henry Glover, maker and repairer of nautical instruments, New York, about 1850, marked in pen, "No. 548 / Mr. J. Deneston / Bg. Horatio," inscribed in pencil inside lid, "Herbert C. Rodick / Freeport / Me."
