Description
(American, 20th century). Oil on canvas, 1989, identifying information on verso, 73 3/4 x 99 1/2 in., unframed. Comments about the work by the artist: "I painted Expulsion in 1989 - oil on canvas. All my work was black and white. That piece referenced several photographs taken by photojournalists documenting the Bombing of London during WW2. My work was largely about social commentary, but also very much about formal issues - I was very interested in light and shadow, and abstractly painting the figure that ultimately appears realistic. I actually remember making that painting because I had to find a way to use paint in I way I hadnt before. I think it was one of my best pieces."
Provenance
From the Estate of Debra Joseph Diamond, Baltimore, MD. G. H. Dalsheimer Gallery, Baltimore, MD, gallery label affixed on verso.
