Jiaqing Era, circa 1800-10 mauve and gold floral bands encircle this platter with central mauve butterfly decoration. The sprightly turn of the butterfly's wing gives movement and depth to the design. This service, which was made in the first quarter of the nineteenth century for the Van Rensselaer family of the Albany area of New York. Originally a Dutch patroon Family, they branched out during the years and one member, Stephen founded Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in 1824. 15 1/2 in. Long, 13 1/2 in. Wide.
