Associated with Thomas Hughes, a Baltimore lawyer, comprising several hundred stamped covers and postal stationery, many with original correspondence, c.1867 - 1910, with a concentration in the late 1880s; together with a group of U.S. postage due stamps on home-made pages and other stamps on approval sheets.
Condition
These evidently were stored under adverse conditions for many years. As a result, there is dusting and edge wear, with varying brittleness and toning
Provenance
Thomas Hughes (1850-1941) earned a degree in Law at U. Virginia and established a practice in Baltimore in the early 1870s. He was author of "A Boy's Experiences in the Civil War" (1904) and "Ethics o the Practice of Law (1909). The Ohio County Library, in Wheeling, his native city, has a large collection of his papers. The University of Virginia Library also has a file of letters written to Hughes while he was a student.
