Description
Republic Period, dated 1936 Unrecorded. Made for the New York Cafe, a Chinese restaurant that was located in Ellensburg, Washington. Stamped Made in China. Republic Period, dated 1936 a rare Chinese export Canton Famille Rose plate with "New York Cafe 1911-1936" written in script. The New York Cafe was an early Chinese restaurant located in the town of Ellensburg in Washington State. The Art Deco styled building, still standing at 116 West 3rd Avenue, Ellensburg, WA 98926, was built circa 1911 by Peter Giovanini. It is located on what was the busiest intersection in town. Upstairs there were 27 rooms, lit by five skylights. It is very rare to find named and dated examples of Chinese export porcelain, especially for the West Coast American market or from the Republic Period. 8 3/4 in. Diam.
