Qianlong Era, circa 1780 bearing the Scottish coat of arms of ROBERTSON, a crest in form of an arm holding up a coronet and the Latin motto 'VIRTUTIS GLORIA MERCES', flanked by a serpent and a dove, with the motto 'WISE AS THE SERPENT, HARMLESS AS THE DOVE', below is a naked figure chained to the coat of arms boat, 7 1/2 in. L., 7 3/4 IN. l. For further example, see "Chinese Armorial Porcelain," by D.S. Howard, p.391. NOTE: a dish from the same service is the British Museum Collection, museum no. Franks. 1417.
