Description
Qianlong era, circa 1750 Chinese export continental market. The first, a Biblical subject, featuring Old Testament King David on his balcony looking at the bath of Bathsheba, his then neighbor’s wife, 9 1/4 in. Diam. La Porcelaine de Compagnies des Indes a Décor Occidental, (F. & N. Hervouet & Y. Bruneau, Flammarion - Pere Castor, Paris 1986), p.262, no. 11.10. The second, a mythological subject, featuring a classic image popular in the 18th century known as ‘The Seller of Cupids.’ This subject matter is unrecorded in the literature. 9 1/4 in. Diam.
