Description
Jiaqing era, circa 1815 Chinese export English market. Brightly painted in enamels with various fish and other creatures of the sea almost entirely filling the well. The two crests in the center of the well are of the English family CLERKE and about them is a ribbon with the inscription ‘Munus et Monumentum Victoriae Henry VIII Spurs, 1513.’ This recalls the victory of Henry VIII at the Battle of Spurs in 1513, 9 in.
