Description
The B-6 variety (R-4) is scarce and at first glance this appears to be a wholesome grey natural coins. It was wiped many years ago that left hairlines on it but finding any large size Capped Bust Quarter completely free of issues is not a easy task. Thee B-6 variety has a very interesting reverse with multiple die cracks: from the A in AMERICA down to the wing, from the rim to in between ER in AMERICA, from the T in STATES through the motto and eagle's beak to its shoulder and from the N in UNITED to the wing. The later two almost connect and create a quarter of the reverse bisected by the two cracks. For variety specialists like McCloskey, the variety was often more important than being cleaned
Provenance
From the John McCloskey Collection. He was a Math Professor who specialized in earlier American coins and was very active in the John Reich and Seated Liberty Collectors Club as a Variety Specialist.
