Description
Inscribed, "LEVI COOPER / HIS - HORN X OCTober / THE 25TH AD 1758" and "FLOWER=D / AT SARATOGA" (identified with Levi Cooper, b. 1746 in New Haven, Ct., d. 1811 in North Haven, Ct., evidently associated with Abercrombie's force which had attacked the French at Ticonderoga earlier in the year) engraved with a man of war and a small sloop, a church facade, an arcaded building, a porpoise, and flowering tree; cow horn with cross-hatched wooden butt cap secured with copper rivets, two rose-head nails on the cap, fitted with a horn measuring cup stopper, 13 1/4 in. L.
Condition
Butt cap seems to have been reattached during period of active use. Wear and cracking near the butt edge
