Jerusalem, c. 1920, Bezalel School, the underside signed in Hebrew. The back-plate etched with two Temple priests in robes, standing in front of a balustrade, each holding a lamp, with a pair of applied filigree lions with garnet eyes, flanking a beaded menorah set with malachite, standing upon a pedestal inscribed with raised Hebrew letters reading "Chanukah," the structure with beaded columns set with malachite, the base with a fixed beaded nozzle, the pedestal inscribed in Hebrew "These lights are sacred," within Stars of David, the interior with a single removable row of eight oil wells, the hinged cover applied with beaded elongated nozzles; 5 1/4 in. Update 8/12/24: The central well refers to the single oil lamp that lights the other lamps.
The lamp weighs 13.75 ozt. without the insert of wells. The insert is a base metal over copper and has wear and losses on the surface from use. The silver lamp is low-grade silver, not sterling standard. The garnets have tiny chips and cracks visible under a loupe. The right front nozzle has been repaired/resoldered at the base. The front left leg has a dent. Without central well. With some bent tiles along the top edge. With wear throughout from age and use. The back-plate and front inscription has been polished using a polishing cloth to reveal detail for photos. The remaining piece has not been polished
