Description
Rex Brasher, BIRDS AND TREES OF NORTH AMERICA (Kent, Ct.: Rex Brasher Associates, 1929-1932) The first volume signed by Brasher on the title page, #93 (of an edition of about 100 copies); Vol. XI with a signed inscription from Brasher to his sister, Laura, dated 1934; 12 volumes, oblong folio, about 12 x 17 1/2 in., in original post bindings with imprinted masonite boards and three-quarter brown pigskin; with original boxes. Contains 867 hand-colored photogravure plates, with tissue guards and letterpress, including folksy commentary by Brasher, who made this project his life's work
Condition
With the exception of Vol. XI, the bindings and texts rate as Fine, though the leather is dry and could rub if mishandled. Vol. XI shows some damp damage on the covers and very light edge toning to the text, about Very Good, with plates problem-free. The boxes are original. Most covered with green wood-grain paper and with wood-grain oil cloth lifting ribbons, with labelling apparently by Brasher himself. Two boxes have brown wood grain covering. Three of the boxes were subsequently re-covered with toile fabric
Provenance
Consignor's family were friends of the Brashers in Connecticut
