Description
Thomas Whipham & Charles Wright, London, 1768. Modified from a hot water urn. In three pieces including base, body, and cover. Square base, with open-work sides, gadrooned border, supporting an urn, with internal chimney, swirling repousse foliate decoration, branch handles, with chased armorial crest over a banner inscribed "Fortitudine Et Prudentia," the conforming lift-off cover with pineapple finial, 21 1/2 in. H, 87.3 ozt.
Condition
English silver is sterling standard. Marked on the top of the pedestal base, foot rim of the urn, and rim of the cover. The urn locks into the base. The top of the finial is bent. Finial is slightly tilted and possibly replaced as indicated by a hole next to it. A vertical dent/crease from a possible repair to a split. Without current splits. Modified from a hot water urn - the spigot has been removed and a ghost mark is visible
