19th century or earlier, including a Meiji shakudo example with gold tigers on one side, bamboo on the other, signed by the artist, 2 7/8 in. H, 2 5/8 in. W; an iron guard with chiseled image of Daruma accented with gilding, 3 in. H; a remarkable nanban style iron guard with interlaced openwork vines, accented with gilt animals and leaves, 3 1/8 in. Diam.; and a similar openwork guard with dragons entwined in the vines, 3 1/8 in. Diam. Accompanied by a gilt metal "coin" good luck charm and a paulownia wood box

The iron tsubas show some wear, the last with particular loss of gilding
