19th century or earlier, a yari sasaho or "bamboo leaf" type with heavy shovel-shaped blade, a gutter on the flat side and suguha temper line all around, a socket for mounting rather than a tang, 11 7/8 in. L, overall, the blade 1 7/8 in. W, approx. 1/2 in. thick. Housed in a hand carved shirasaya sheath, with short shaft, 28 1/2 in. L altogether
