American Gold Eagles were created by the Gold Bullion Act of 1985. The composition is 91.67% Gold, 3% Silver and 5.33% Copper. By law the source of the gold must be from the U.S. The design is taken from August Saint Gaudens 1907 $20 Double Eagle design
