Description
Christian Gobrecht designed all the Liberty Gold Coins which lasted from 1839 � 1907, one of the longest designer runs in US coins. During most of this period he also had the half dime, dime, quarter, twenty cent piece half dollar, and Quarter-Half and Full Gold Eagle. Only six better at NGC. Struck on a better planchet than some previous half eagles at Dahlonega, the appearance of a typical 49-D is above the norm. Exceptionally rare in mint state with only 4-5 known, this one is close.
