Probably New England, 2nd quarter 19th century: handsomely decorated with a flying eagle, carrying shield and draped flag on a grain-painted ground; constructed of thin pine staves over maple or birch hoops; vellum head at either end (one with pencil caricature of General Hancock); original leather tighteners, the cords replaced.

Shows age and wear, with separation along the stave joints. The head with the caricature with tears and water damage
