Sheet of four receipts for money from the Continental Congress to pay bounties for recruits to the Pennsylvania Flying Camp, August 17, 1776, including George Ross (1730-1779, Signer of the Declaration of Independence) for $800; Major Michael Swoope (1725-1792, captured at Ft. Washington, exchanged for Gov. Franklin of NJ) for $1080, the receipt penned by Timothy Matlack; Timothy Matlack (1736-1829, known as the scribe of the Declaration of Independence) for $451.17, cancelled; and Lt. Col. Joseph Donaldson, for L285; 2 pp., removed from a ledger, 8 3/4 x 7 in. Together with an engraved portrait by Max Rosenthal.
Condition
Paper becoming brittle, with uneven but generally light toning, mended with glassine tape and laid into a window mount
